School Governors Needed

School Governors Needed

Bishop Bosco is urgently calling for volunteers to become Foundation Governors and Directors to help secure the future of Catholic education in our Diocese.

With over 60 Catholic schools in the Clifton diocese, which serve thousands of children, we rely on a dedicated team of volunteer governors and directors who support our schools’ mission and Catholic ethos. However, there are currently around 100 vacancies for these vital roles, putting the future of our Catholic schools at risk.

Why Become a Foundation Governor or Director?
Foundation Governors and Directors are the Bishop’s representatives on school governing bodies and Trust Boards. They play a crucial role in shaping the vision, ethos and strategic direction of our schools. Their responsibilities include supporting Catholic values in the curriculum, overseeing standards, managing resources wisely and ensuring the schools remain places where Christ is known and loved.

You don’t need to be an expert in education – just a practicing Catholic over 18 with a passion for helping our schools thrive. People from all backgrounds are welcome, and full training and support are provided. The average time commitment is less than an hour per week.

What Will You Do?

  • Attend regular meetings to help make key decisions
  • Support the Catholic life and mission of the school(s)
  • Monitor school performance and hold leadership to account
  • Take part in staff appointments and admissions decisions
  • Engage with the school community through visits and events
  • Complete training to develop your skills and understanding

Governors and Directors are appointed for a 4-year term, with the option to continue afterwards. This is a voluntary role with no remuneration, though reasonable expenses can be claimed.
