Celebrating the Blessing of Animals in Brazil

The Blessing of Animals on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4th) is a cherished tradition in Brazil, deeply rooted in Catholic culture. This practice honours St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment, reflecting his profound love for all creatures.

In Brazil, it’s common for Catholic parishes to host outdoor ceremonies where pets of all kinds – dogs, cats, birds, and even farm animals – are brought to receive blessings. These events are typically informal, held in parish fields or gardens.
